Technology In First Grade

Technology in first grade this year has taken on a new and improved look!  Tuesdays and Thursdays, first graders go to the computer lab for a technology lesson with Mrs. Townsend.  Mrs. Townsend, comes into the classroom on Mondays and Wednesdays with the i-pads to integrate technology into our learning expedition "Everybody Has a Story".  Mrs. Townsend and I team teach a lesson and sit back and coach students as they independently create.
During our first 2 rotations of technology, first grade is creating stories using the i-Pad application, Puppet Pals.  On Monday, each student worked independently on the story.

Next, we revised our stories using a checklist and sentence starters to make sure that we had all the story elements:
~Characters
~Setting
~Beginning
  In the beginning.....
~Middle
   Then....
   Next...
   After that...
~End
  At the end....

Learning Target
I can create a story using all the story elements.

Case Study #2 - Stories, Stories, So Many Parts!

=

We are now in Case Study #2, Stories, Stories, So Many Parts, of our Learning Expedition, "Everybody Has a Story".  We are reading a variety of fiction books to find the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.  This week, we collaborated as an entire crew to retell the story The Little Red Hen.  Students worked on identifying the elements and describing them.

Our learning targets are:
I can describe characters, setting and major events in a story using key details.
I can persevere to produce high quality work.
We got another visit from our Douglas County Public Library Spellbinder, Mrs. Judy Hill.  She captivated the CREW with a beautiful story and amazing songs.  We are so lucky to have her as our expert!
